The Learning Garden at UVM Fanny Allen Campus was designed as a destination garden space for nourishment and education. The goal of the project was to enhance the program’s mission “to improve the health and well being of the community through garden and nutrition education and create a circle of giving by working as a team to reduce hunger.”
We renovated the vegetable and flower garden space by building accessible raised beds from local cedar and an ADA compliant walkway. We constructed a lean-to that provides shelter and a storage space for cut flowers, as well as a location for outdoor classes on gardening and nutrition. We protected the space from deer and groundhogs by installing a fence with wire mesh buried in the ground and stainless steel cable rails above. We are proud to have been invited to participate in this important community project.
